If you’re an educator or an active school parent looking for an opportunity to teach students the value of philanthropy, what better way than to reinforce reading skills at the same time! Last year the 4th graders at University Park Elementary School here in Denver participated in a very successful Read-a-thon fundraiser and generated more than $1,000 for Project KARE to buy school supplies for Karen students in rural villages in Karen State in Burma. We’re incredibly thankful to Mindy Ostrom and all her students for their amazing gift!
After school supplies were delivered, all the students at U Park received personalized Thank You art work from the 4th grade students in Day Bu Noh village, deep in the jungle of Burma. Many students in Karen State do not have enough money to buy notebooks or pens so donations from the Read-a-thon put big smiles on faces of hundreds of students!
