Mae Ra Moe Volunteer Blog post from Tricia Hepburn from the U.K.

We’re so thankful to Tricia and her friend Kerry Hunter for volunteering as English teachers at Mae Ra Moe refugee camp for two weeks in June. They taught English at the Bible School where students are studying to receive a Bachelor’s in Theology. To add a little extra cultural exposure into the educational mix for their Karen students … they also engaged students in learning traditional Scottish ceilidh dancing!  This is still one of our very favorite video clips from our volunteer teachers!

Before arriving at Mae Ra Moe Tricia had a range of experience tutoring children from 12 months to 40+ years in English. Tricia is also a primary school teacher and she taught in a Scottish primary school. As an avid language learner, Tricia speaks English, Irish Gaelic and Spanish.

After Kerry completed her teacher training she taught primary school for a year in Fife, Scotland. She also studied Folk and Traditional music at Newcastle University.

To learn more about Tricia and Kerry’s visit to Mae Ra Moe refugee camp, a great glimpse into the Project KARE volunteer teaching experience at Mae Ra Moe, take a few minutes to read Tricia’s most recent blog post.
